COVID-19 began its gradual assault on our everyday lives starting in the first half of 2020; we were all forced to, one after another, revisit the exhibitions we had in the works. It was right around that time that we first heard about 2020Solidarity – our space was in talks about organizing a separate venture (realized later as ART BOOK MARKET Sangenjaya) with POST, who reached out about the campaign as its organizer in Japan.

The campaign’s cause is profound and so we lack the words to describe it properly, but we were inspired to take part for several reasons; one is how each of the participating entities were able to take charge in selecting which artists and which works they chose to introduce at their outlets out of the campaign’s unique lineup. Another is that at the time, all varieties of different exhibitions and other endeavors saw cancellation and postponing, and art fans were increasingly closed off from all that they enjoyed; we felt great potential in 2020Solidarity because it acted as one way to provide the artistic experience to those fans during the COVID pandemic.

Through 2020Solidarity and its posters, we’ve been able to connect with so many different people; it acted as a catalyst to spark us back into activity and to break free from the deadlock that COVID had put us in. We also like to think that it helped us in setting the groundwork for creating different online initiatives. In retrospect, we feel that participating in this campaign has proven immensely fruitful for us.

We’re so grateful that clinic was selected as a participating venue for this campaign, and we would like to express our heartfelt respect and thanks to participating artists, POST, Between Bridges, and Wolfgang Tillmans for reminding us of the value and potential in both art itself, and posters as a medium.
