She herself began publishing at the age of 7 with the name \u201cTove Publishing\u201d and went on to release numerous picture books and novels through other publishers later on.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0At TABF, we have invited Keiko Morishita, translator and researcher of Tove Jansson based in Helsinki, Finland, to present Jansson as an \u201cartist who makes books\u201d by gathering all her illustrated books and materials. Within this selection, we will also be focusing on Jansson\u2019s strong connection to Japan with the Japanese versions of her publications and other works.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0In addition, there will be an exhibition of photographs by Takashi Homma who has captured the beautiful yet wild nature of the islets, including Klovharun with the summerhouse where Jansson and her partner, Tuulikki Pietil\u00e4, have spent over twenty summers, and the mushrooms that grow there.\u00a0 Morishita, who has been researching Jansson for years, describes Homma\u2019s photographs as \u201ca work that does not simply search for Tove Jansson, but a piece through which you can feel her perspective.\u201d These images thus unveil the charm of the Nordics and their unique outlook on the world by tracing back Jansson\u2019s thoughts and steps as we can grasp her presence with us.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Islands, Islets, and Their Mushrooms, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a book which includes Homma\u2019s photographs along with Morishita\u2019s essays counting the episodes related to these islets, will also be released at the occasion of Tokyo Art Book Fair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Support From: KODANSHA LTD., Hiroko Yokokawa, CURATORS Inc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\uff1cRelated Publication\uff1e<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Islands, Islets, and Their Mushrooms<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Photographs: Takashi Homma\u3000Text: Keiko Morishita<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Art Direction &amp; Design: Asuka Wakida<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Publisher: TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deeply impressed by \u201cHaru, the Island of the Solitary,\u201d the documentary film about Tove Jansson and Tuulikki Pietil\u00e4\u2019s days in Klovharun, Takashi Homma published his photobook <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A song for windows<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (LIBRARYMAN) in 2016 which collected pictures he had taken on the island.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accompanied by Keiko Morishita who had also coordinated his trip then, Homma revisited the Finnish islands in September this year, to photograph the nature and mushrooms found there. Along with the new pictures Homma had captured, this book includes essays which outline Morishita\u2019s own experience on the islands as well as the life of the islanders, full of playfulness and adventurous spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Takashi Homma<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homma released <em>Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji<\/em> (MACK) and <em>TOKYO OLYMPIA<\/em> (Nieves) in 2023. His solo-exhibition \u201cRevolution 9: Homma Takashi\u201d will be open until Sunday January 21st 2024 at Tokyo Photographic Art Museum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keiko Morishita<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born in 1969, in Mie Prefecture. She moved to Finland in the fall of 1994 to research Moomin at the University of Helsinki. She has lived in Helsinki ever since and currently works as a coordinator and translator\/interpreter.
