In this workshop, the participants will be guided in experiencing sound as the primary conduit to imagination and creativity. Through attentive listening of never-before-heard sounds from the underwater world, they will imagine the creatures emitting these without seeing their physical forms. The aim is to unlock and allow alternative creative acts of imagination that will challenge and complement the main sense in humans (seeing). The creatures that produced the sounds, as imagined by the participants, will then be expressed and described in written (e.g., text) or visual form (e.g., drawings). This creative output will then be, at a later stage, collated in an edited volume/booklet, that participants may download and print to keep.

OTOMONO (Stefano Kalonaris + Haruka Saito)

OTOMONO is an acoustic ecology, design & heritage collective based in Japan. In an age marked by climate crisis and disappearing ecosystems, investigating our relationship with the environment has become non-negotiable. By promoting awareness of the soundscapes around us, and how we affect these with our presence and activities, OTOMONO hopes to contribute to a more balanced and integrated daily experience.
