Introducing Lars Müller, who founded the eponymous, Switzerland-based publishing firm Lars Müller Publishers in 1983. Müller’s firm primarily deals with printed goods spanning over the themes of typography, design, art, photography, and architecture.

Leading up to the present, Lars Müller Publishers has released a number of publications centering around the noted German art school, Bauhaus – more specifically, the bauhaus journal series and Bauhausbücher series. At present, the publishing house is hard at work creating reprinted editions of the Bauhaus catalog series (first started in 1923), together with yet-to-be-reprinted editions of Bauhausbücher.

This lecture commemorates the 100 year anniversary of Bauhaus’s foundation in 1919. For this talk, Müller will speak on the practice of reselling books and its important role in passing on Bauhaus’s cultural legacy – with his firm’s Bauhaus-related publications acting as a concrete example of such efforts.

Lars Müller

Born in Oslo, Norway in 1955, Müller relocated to Switzerland in 1963 and continues to operate there in the present day. Müller aspired to enter the field of graphic design from a young age, leading him to begin vocational training in Switzerland and later take his studies to the United States and the Netherlands. He would later establish a design studio in Barden, Switzerland in 1982, and then Lars Müller Publishers in 1983 — where he would begin creating publications centering around typography, design, art, photography, architecture, and more. Onward from 1996, Müller would go on to further cement himself as a figure of note in the design world: serving as a partner at the noted design group Intégral Concept and chairman of the Alliance Graphique Internationale. https://www.lars-mueller-publishers.com/
