From 1966 to 1977, Italy experienced a surge of diverse independent publishing born out of social, artistic, and political movements calling for change. In this era of intense struggles—marked by student movements, labor strikes, the rise of radical activism, and occupations of universities and factories—print media became both a powerful tool for spreading the messages and demands of these movements, and a playground for bold visual and artistic experimentation.
YES YES YES Revolutionary Press in Italy 1966–1977, published by Viaindustriae and a+mbookstore, brings together more than 600 pieces of printed matter from this dynamic period, including newspapers, magazines, mimeographs, news-sheets, pamphlets, one-off supplements and attachments.
At TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR, selected materials from this extensive archive will be on display. In the talk event, Emanuele De Donno of Viaindustriae will explore the social context of the time while introducing printed works that were closely linked to political, ideological, and countercultural movements, highlighting the diversity of their expressions.
